Every poem begins with a first draft—a space for exploration, experimentation, and discovery. First Draft is a five-week virtual poetry workshop series designed to help you develop your poetic voice, build foundational skills, and gain confidence in your writing. Whether you're new to poetry or looking to deepen your craft, this series will provide the tools, inspiration, and community to support your journey. 📆 When: Every Tuesday from April 22nd to May 20th ⏰ Time: 6 PM – 7 PM (ET) 💻 Where: Virtual (Zoom) 💲 Cost: $60 for the full series ✍ Open to all levels Workshop Breakdown: 🔹 Week 1 – What is Poetry? Poetry is everywhere—how do we engage with it? We’ll explore the many ways poetry shows up in the world, how we interact with it, and where we can find inspiration. We'll also reflect on our personal relationship with poetry and creativity. 🔹 Week 2 – The Building Blocks of a Poem Dive into the elements of a poem, from literary devices to structural choices. We’ll discuss line breaks, imagery, rhythm, and various poetic forms, experimenting with different ways a poem can take shape on the page. 🔹 Week 3 – Finding Your Voice How do identity, personal experience, and storytelling shape poetry? This session will focus on voice, authenticity, vulnerability, and the power of truth in writing. 🔹 Week 4 – The Art of Revision Writing is rewriting. Learn strategies for editing and revising your poems, refining them into stronger, more intentional works. 🔹 Week 5 – What Now? You’ve written the poems—what’s next? We’ll explore ways to keep writing, submission opportunities, integrating poetry with other genres and art forms, and the art of performing and sharing your work. Each session will include generative writing prompts, discussion, and opportunities for feedback. By the end of the series, you’ll have a collection of new drafts, a deeper understanding of poetic craft, and a roadmap for what’s next in your writing journey.
